The United States Congress has asked National Basketball Association (NBA) Commissioner Adam Silver to report on the recent gambling scandal that has rocked the sports world.
in a letter Addressed to the current commissioner and viewed by ReadWrite, the request was made for his response by October 31, 2025, in connection with the FBI’s investigation into rigged poker games, match and player abuse of the NBA’s betting regulations, and allegations of wire fraud.
As we reported, as part of an operation involving thirty-one people, Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier, Portland Trail Blazers coach Chauncey Billups, and former NBA star Damon Jones were arrested.
The charges brought against the three “range from wire fraud, money laundering, extortion, theft and illegal gambling. This FBI will leave no room for crimes to be perpetrated across the country,” FBI Director Kash Patel said as part of the press announcement.
Rozier and Billups were later suspended as part of an official correspondence, but so far, there has been no response from Silver regarding the congressional request.

Commissioner Silver was specifically asked to address five key questions in the Congressional letter, including:
Silver’s appearance on the Pat McAfee show was specifically mentioned by Congress, highlighting a point he made regarding “two-way” player contracts.
As for two-way players, Silver admitted that they could be at risk of manipulation, saying, “We’ve asked some of our partners to remove some of the prop bets, especially when it comes to two-way players, guys who don’t have the same interest in the competition where, you know, it’s too easy to manipulate something that otherwise seems small and inconsequential to the overall score.”
Congress pointed to previous violations and said “illegal sports betting based on non-public information in the NBA is not a new problem,” referring to Porter pleading guilty to wire fraud for his fraudulent actions in multiple NBA games under the FBI microscope.
Silver also stated as part of the interview that he would like to see a federal mandate on some betting lines, saying: “We (the NBA) accept that betting is legal in about 35 states now in the United States. I think there should probably be more regulation. Frankly, it may be surprising to hear from me. I wish there were federal legislation instead of state-by-state.”
In closing, the letter instructs Commissioner Silver to deliver his report by the end of October, outlining the enforcement of gambling violations and actions taken on the five points Congress has asked him to cover.
