Ottawa is making Russia more sanctions after the accusations that Moscow interfered to influence the elections in Moldova, on Thursday the office of the Foreign Minister Anita Anand, Anita Anand.
Canada is imposing sanctions against 16 individuals and two entities under the special regulations of economic measures (Moldavia) for its role in the “Russian evil interference activities in Moldova,” Anand’s office said.
“These individuals have actively participated in coordinated efforts aimed at destabilizing the democratically chosen government in Moldova. They are associated with the politician and businessman Ilan Shor, who has been sanctioned by Canada, and who fled from Moldova in 2019,” the statement continued.

The list of people who have been sanctioned include Shor party officials, a political party led by Ilan Shor. The party was sanctioned by the Canadian government in June 2023.
The list also includes former Moldova officials and officials of the Gagauzia Autonomous Territorial Unit, “a region in Moldova whose current administration has strong links with Russia.”
Canada is also placing sanctions to the members of the media of pro-ruse molds accused of “disinformation”, as well as “other participants in Russia’s malignant operations abroad.”
The two entities in which Canada placed sanctions on Thursday includes Victory/Pobeda, a political bloc led by the Shor party, and a paramilitary group backed by the coast that Canada accused of being “involved in the organization of a series of anti -government protests in Moldo in 2023”.
Anand’s office said Canada is implementing these measures “as actors and political organizations under the influence of Mr. Shor are increasing their efforts to interfere with the next parliamentary elections in Moldova, which will be held on September 28, 2025.”
