Cameron Diaz ‘depends’ on therapy to cope with marriage to Benji Madden

In a recent interview with her brother-in-law, Joel Madden, on his “Artist Friendly” podcast, Cameron Diaz discussed her relationship and credit therapy as a key factor in the strength of her nine-year marriage to Benji Madden.

The 52-year-old actress, who shares two children with the “Good Charlotte” musician, shared, “It’s what we depend on, so you have that commitment to work on it.”

She emphasized that therapy prevents her and Benji from doing “the same thing over and over again.”

According to the daily mailDiaz said therapy encourages her and her husband to ask themselves, “Why didn’t it work? How can I make it work? What’s my part? What’s the other person’s job?”

Diaz also highlighted how the therapy taught them to be more “self-aware” and “a little more equipped to hopefully get a different outcome.”

The “Charlie’s Angel” star explained, “(It helps us) figure something out or create a new understanding of a new process together.”

During the talk, Díaz explained that when times get tough, she and Benji emphasize staying committed to their partnership.

“Both people are not at 100 percent every day,” he said. “Even if you’re mad at each other and don’t want to see each other, sick of each other, it’s still a 100 percent commitment to marriage and partnership and things in the family. If it’s not 100 percent “It just doesn’t work if a person has a deficit.”

The “My Best Friend’s Wedding” star also reflected on balancing her careers as she prepared for her return to the screen in “Back in Action,” scheduled for release in January.

During Fortune’s Most Powerful Women Summit in October, she praised Benji for his support.

“My husband is just the best,” Diaz shared. “He told me, ‘You’ve been supporting us and building the family.’ And supporting him in his businesses, he says, ‘It’s time for us to support you and let mom step up and do her thing.'”

The couple recently welcomed their second child

Díaz and musician Benji married in 2015 during an intimate ceremony at their Beverly Hills home.

Four years later, in December 2019, the couple welcomed their first child, a daughter named Raddix, via a surrogate. Raddix will celebrate his fifth birthday on December 30.

In March of this year, Díaz and the “El Río” singer announced the arrival of their second child, a boy named Cardenal, who was also born through surrogate.

Díaz shared the happy news on Instagram with an illustration that read: “A little bird whispered to me.”

In the caption of the post, he expressed his gratitude: “We feel blessed and excited to announce the birth of our Son, Cardinal Madden.”

Diaz continued, “It’s amazing and we’re all so happy it’s here! For the child’s safety and privacy, we won’t be posting any photos, but it’s really cute. We feel so blessed and grateful.”

The proud mom concluded her post by writing, “Sending lots of love from our family to yours. Best wishes and good afternoon!!”

In March, shortly after the couple announced the arrival of their son Cardinal, a source revealed to People Magazine that Díaz feels “more than lucky” to have expanded his family.

“They were always hoping for a second baby because they love being parents,” the source shared.

“For years, Cameron wanted to be a mom,” they continued. “She gets very emotional when she talks about the long road to motherhood. She feels beyond lucky to now have two children.”

In a 2020 conversation with Katherine Power, CEO of “Who What Wear,” the “Bad Teacher” actress expressed her joy at motherhood.

“I love being a mother. It’s the best, the best, the best part of my life,” Díaz said, according to People Magazine. I am very, very grateful and very happy and it is the best thing I have ever done and I am very lucky to be able to do it with Benji and we are having the best time.

“It’s fantastic. I’m delighted,” she added.
