British police said Saturday that “several people” were stabbed on a train near Cambridge and that two people were arrested in connection with the incident.
British Transport Police said in X that officers are “currently responding to an incident on a train to Huntingdon where a number of people have been stabbed.”
Cambridgeshire Police, the local police force, said in a social media post to which armed police responded after officers were called to the scene at Huntingdon station, where the train stopped, at 7:39 pm local time on Saturday. The two people were arrested at the station, located about 120 kilometers north of London.

East of England Ambulance Service wrote in X that could “confirm that we have transported several patients to the hospital.”
The British newspaper The Times reported that a witness described seeing a man with a large knife. The witness told The Times there was “blood everywhere”, with people hiding in bathrooms to escape and some being “stepped on by others” as they tried to flee.
Paul Bristow, mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, said in a post on X that he had heard of reports of “horrendous scenes” on the train. Cambridge is located in the county of Cambridgeshire.

In a post on social mediaBritish Prime Minister Keir Starmer called the attack an “appalling incident” that was “deeply worrying” and urged people in the area to “follow the advice of the police.”
“My thoughts are with all those affected and my thanks to the emergency services for their response,” he wrote.
