Brazil decide the future of the chief coach after Argentina’s defeat

The Brazilian Soccer Confederation (CBF) will meet on Friday to discuss the future of Brazil’s coach, Dorival Junior, according to reports.

The Dorival team was beaten by 4-1 by Argentina’s world champions and bitter rivals in a 2026 World Cup classification game on Thursday, which caused the rapid programming of a meeting of the president of CBF, Ednaldo Rodrigues, sources told ESPN Brazil.

The sources said that although the review meetings between Dorival and the CBF are routine during international windows, the strong defeat in Buenos Aires has accelerated a face to face with the coaching staff.

However, it is understood that Dorival has not yet been informed of any decision regarding its future.

Meanwhile, the reports continue to circulate, which suggests that the CBF is looking for the Real Madrid manager, Carlo Ancelotti, as a possible replacement for Dorival. The head of Flamengo, Filipe Luis and Jorge Jesus, currently by Al Hilal, are also considered potential candidates.

The Selecao have suffered a turbulent time in the qualification. They currently sit in the fourth place at the table with only four remaining games, having won six, trapted three and lost five.

The first six arrive at the World Cup finals, with the seventh place entering the intercontinental play-offs for a place in the tournament next year in Canada, Mexico and the United States.

Dorival, a former 62 -year -old defensive midfielder, has been a coach of the National Team of Brazil since January 2024.

His management career began in 2002 and has only trained in his native country, taking charge of more than 20 clubs, including multiple periods with people like Santos and Sao Paulo.
