Ben Stiller has a strict rule on the compensation set

Although it is mainly known as comedy actor, Ben Stiller has maintained a constant presence behind the scene as director and producer for decades, and makes these talents of great use in the most crew of television, “Severance”. But that’s not all that brings to the table.

It is known that Stiller complements his comic roles with the artistic rate, including the comedy comedy of Wes Anderson in 2001 “The Royal Tenenbaums” and the romantic comedy of Noah Baumbach “Greenberg”. It also seems to have kept his eyes open when it came to work methods, taking influences from the acclaimed filmmakers that he could later use in his own sets. During an appearance in the podcast of Mike Birbiglia “Solving it” Stiller revealed that a certain restriction that Baumbach used in the set inspired him to prohibit certain things while filming. In the case of “compensation”, which does not allow the set are the phones:

“The crew has to use phones sometimes to communicate, but, for me, I do not like phones anywhere near the actors window. Out, and whatever it is.”

Stiller is not the only director who prohibits phones on the set

Stiller’s initial inspiration to prohibit objects in his sets comes from the inclination of Noah Baumbach for making sure his “Greenberg” set did not have chairs at all, which says that Stiller helped people monitor the ball. After having experienced this first -hand approach, he liked the idea that he used it while directed the 2013 adventure comedy “Walter Mitty’s secret life.”

Stiller’s “compensation” telephone prohibition received immediate support in “resolving it.” The program star, Adam Scott, which also appeared in the podcast, confirmed that it can normally detect phones from the corner of the eye while working on other projects, and Birbiglia agreed that a policy without a phone is excellent. The “separation” set is not the only one that imposes such limitations: telephones are the director of an object that Denis Villeneuve has forbidden from his films sets, and they are also one of the two things that Christopher Nolan prohibits his. That said, Stiller wanted to clarify that the phone prohibits or not, respects and recognizes the work that the crew performs, and it is their duty to sell its methods to all:

“These people are actually working very hard, and you have to discover how to motivate them to want to be in the team. They have not been with the script you have been writing for five years. They have just arrived in the last place. Week.”

The new episodes of season 2 of “Severance” arrived at Appletv+ on Fridays.
