Before Superman, Nathan Fillion and James Gunn joined for this science fiction horror comedy

Some things simply go together perfectly, such as peanut butter and gelatin, coffee and cherry cake, and Nathan Fillion and James Gunn. The Canadian-American actor and American writer/director/Co-Coo de DC Studios has been working together for decades in all kinds of projects, including the recent start of the Gunn’s big screen for his DC universe, “Superman”. In “Superman”, written and directed by Gunn, Fillion plays Green Lantern Guy Gardner, a very different version of the DC hero that many fans know and love, Hal Jordan. (Fillion previously told Jordan in multiple animated DC films direct to health media, but the role of live action at that time was for his former co -star of “Two Guys and A Girl”, Ryan Reynolds, instead).

In fact, Fillion has starred in more Gunn projects than almost anyone, except Gunn’s own brother, Sean Gunn, who returns to the director’s debut in 2005, “Slither”. “Slither” is a brutally violent horror comedy about an alien invasion in a small city in South Carolina and Fillion plays the local sheriff, Bill Pardy. Together with the mayor of the city (Gregg Henry), a local teenager named Kylie (Tania Saulnier) and the girlfriend of the Pardy high school, Starla (Elizabeth Banks), Bill does everything possible to fight against an invasion disgusting for courtesy of brain driver bugas. To make things worse, they are led by an alien and mutada version of Starla’s husband, Grant Grant (Michael Rooker). “Slither” has romantic comedy elements, some surprising moments of “King Kong” that empathize with the monster and more disgusting gore than you can shake a stick. It is also the beginning of Fillion and the beautiful Association on the screen of Gunn, and we are all better for it.

“Slither” is an incredible sample of the unique tone that Gunn has perfected over the years, mixing a lot of heart, rude comedy and a serious horror to tell stories that are deeply specific and somewhere universal. Gunn’s films almost always tell stories about found families that survive impossible probabilities, and “Slither” is really the plan. As the survivors of the city of Wheelsy join together, they develop a type of kinship with each other who feels like a family (fast and brutally forged), and a mixture of disgusting humor and sardonic ingenuity balances very well with the horror of the unconditional body. Fillion plays perfectly with his own sarcastic strengths, delivering the driest lines of Gunn with the correct edge of irony and still manages to be an adorable man and a defective but relatable hero. (Seriously, few things are easier to understand than the Sheriff Pardy when seeing a group of people joining the body of Grant Grant of mutant to the derivation of the “society” and going: “Well, that is a bit screwed,” yes, Bill, certainly is).

While “Slither” will probably be too bloody for many fans who discovered Gunn through his “Guardians of the Galaxy” films, feels perfectly in line with the rest of his Oeuvre, even his great DC extended a team of Univise “the suicide squad.” Really, there is basically a straight line from “Slither” to “The Suicide Squad” in terms of humor, themes and especially the tone, and the best part is that both have a filling. In fact, most Gunn’s films do it, and that rules.

Fillion and Gunn have worked quite together since “Slither”, with their collaborations, including everything, from the silly online of Gunn that falsified the tropes of pornography, “James Gunn’s PG Porn”, to the “Guardians of the Galaxy” movies. He is the Bible superhero, the Holy Avenger in “Super”, had cameos in the first two films of “Guardians”, played the teacher Karja in “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,” The removable child in “The Squad Suicida”, and now is Guy Gardner in “Superman”. There is much to love in “Superman” for fans of previous collaborations of Gunn and Fillion, and they are likely to continue working together in the future in the future.

In general, there are many large director-actor associations, but for my money, I will always support Gunn and Fillion. They are guaranteed that it will bring the laughs, some blows and a lot of heart (even when Fillion is playing a total idiot).
