Manchester City found themselves at a disadvantage again at Villa Park this afternoon as Jhon Durán brought further misery to Pep Guardiola’s side.
The Colombian striker, named ahead of Ollie Watkins in the starting XI, scored in the 16th minute, turning Morgan Rogers’ pass into a frenetic opening.

The goal was long overdue and Villa came close twice before the goal. First, Durán found himself free at 19 seconds, but Stefan Ortega stopped his shot. In the resulting corner, the German made a brilliant save to avoid a header from Pau Torres that the ball barely crossed the line.
Despite Jack Grealish’s best efforts against his former club, City created little in the opening 35 minutes. Their best effort fell to Phil Foden, but his shot was parried by Emiliano Martínez in the Villa goal.
City came into the contest with just one win in their last 11 games.
