ashanti and nelly They had their happy sparkles shining brightly at their annual black and white dance on Sunday! It’s about a week until the couple celebrates their first wedding anniversary on December 27. And let’s be clear that their love still seems as fresh as the day Nelly crossed a live Verzuz stage to hug her three years ago! To top off the night, the couple surprised the dance guests with a remix of their song ‘Baby’.
The couple and their guests traveled to Nelly’s hometown of St. Louis for the charity event. This year, the proceeds from the get-together lux will go supposedly benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation and Harris-Stowe State University scholarships.
Last month, Ashanti and Nelly went viral for their joint performance at her 50th birthday celebration. Over the weekend, the couple wore their holiday best. The new mother looked stunning in a shimmering long dress with long sleeves and a high neck. Meanwhile, dad Nelly showed up in an all-black tuxedo and thin-rimmed glasses.
At one point on the microphone, Ashanti began singing her iconic song ‘Baby’, but changed the lyrics to say: “We made a baby, baby, baby, baby.” And Nelly joined in with the choruses and improvisations. They sang the lyrics over and over, even putting their heads together at one point. They danced, laughed and looked happily in love!
The moment set the ball rolling AND the comment sections on social media! On The Shade Room’s IG page, the clip garnered nearly 10,000 comments in less than 24 hours.
As usual, the event in the rapper’s hometown featured some iconic hip-hop creators in the building, from Bow Wow to Jermaine Dupri and Ne-Yo. Everyone took the stage, but there were also celebrities in the audience, from bestselling writer Bryan Michael-Cox to Metro Boomin. The producer is also a native of STL.
Speaking of natives, at the annual ball, Nelly & The St. Lunatics received the Key to the City of St. Louis. “Yes, that’s true, it’s heavy too.” were Nelly’s first words after taking the trophy.
What do you think, roommates?
