A16z Speedrun announced that his initial applications for his next event, SR005, the fifth edition of his Signature event. The Speedrunning Program for 12 weeks begins on July 28 in Los Angeles, with A16Z planning to invest up to $ 1 million in each company selected to participate. The event culminates on demo day, held on October 7 during the week SF Tech. Applications for the program close on May 11.
Speedrun participants generally include those in AI and interactive spaces, and their projects may include tools, experiences, games and entertainment. According to A16Z, less than 1% of the applicants will ensure a place, but those who do will obtain not only the monetary investment of A16Z, but also personalized comments of the team and a network of other mentors, advisors and former students of the program. The company also reports that it has implemented more than $ 100 million to more than 120 new companies since 2023.
Josh Lu, director of A16z, said in a statement: “Speedrun is designed for founders who not only follow trends: they define them. And most importantly it is a community of ambitious builders that accelerates their success.”
A16Z provided details about the anterior cohort of SR004, which had 42 companies of more than 6,000 applicants. 69% of those selected were native to AI in multiple verticals, including trade, development and stories narration. The cohort also had founders of multiple countries, including Canada, Israel, Türkiye, London and Sweden.
