The Chief of Scotland, Steve Clarke, greeted the ‘solid start’ of his team after a 2-0 victory over Belarus had them undefeated in the World Cup classification.
An instinctive end of Che Adams and a goal in the second half were enough for the Scots to win a game they dominated.
Scotland is only behind Denmark for a goal after two games with two games at home, but Clarke is still cautious while pursuing a first World Cup final since 1998.
He said: “It was a difficult night. We kept pushing, doing what we wanted to do. The message was only to keep it patient and we managed to do it.
“It’s a good start, a solid start. Four points will never qualify for anything. It’s good to go home with a smile on the face, but I’m already thinking about next month.
“Billy (Gilmour) and Ben (Gannon-Doak) are two players that excite the public. My work is to choose a team to win the game. They both did very well.
“The clean leaves are what we have to build our campaign.”
Scotland captain Andy Robertson felt that Adams’s first game, his tenth for his country, was key to victory.
He said: “Job made. That is the best way to describe it.
“We knew they would try to be a bit safer and more defensive. We only had to be patients and obtained the goal at the perfect time just before part time.
“We could have had more, but a job well done.”
