Mohammad Amir has sparked fresh debates with his bold statement about the incomparable prowess of Indian cricket superstar Virat Kohli. Amir hailed Kohli as the greatest batsman of this generation and dismissed any comparison between the Indian superstar and other modern icons like Pakistan’s Babar Azam, Australia’s Steve Smith and England’s Joe Root.
The Pakistani cricketer has emphasized that Kohli’s exceptional consistency and ability to step up at crucial moments makes him a legend in all three formats of the game. Unlike his contemporaries, the former Indian captain’s ability to turn matches in India’s favor single-handedly sets him apart from Babar Azam, Joe Root and Steve Smith.
Amir has boldly said that he laughed out loud when Kohli was compared to Pakistani star Babar Azam and even Australia’s batting icon Steve Smith and England’s leading batsman Joe Root. He stressed that there is no comparison between him and his counterparts in any format of the game.

Mohammad Amir said on the Cricket Predicta Show: “Virat Kohli is the best player of this generation. I laugh when comparisons are made between him and Babar Azam, Steve Smith or Joe Root. We cannot compare Virat Kohli with anyone because he has won so many matches for India, which seems impossible for any player. Not just in one format, but in all three formats, Virat is the best batsman of this generation.”
Meanwhile, Mohammad Amir praised Virat Kohli’s dedication and determination, pointing out how the Indian batting star turned his career around after a tough series in England in 2014. Kohli’s ability to analyze his weaknesses, refine his technique and come back stronger distinguishes him from the others. .
Amir also highlighted how Kohli not only overcame that difficult period but also maintained extraordinary consistency for over a decade across all formats. He added: “Virat Kohli’s work ethic sets him apart from all players. “After his poor spell in England in 2014, the way he came back and then performed brilliantly for the next 10 years was no ordinary feat.”

Amir admitted that Pakistan won the 2017 Champions Trophy thanks to Kohli’s wicket. The senior pacer further explained, “His wicket in the 2017 Champions Trophy final was very important for us, which helped us win the final. If Virat had not been sent off, we would have lost the final because we all know how exceptional Virat’s run-finding record is.”
In the end, Mohammad Amir remembered Sachin Tendulkar’s wicket in the 2009 Champions Trophy and said it was the most special moment for him. Amir bowled to one of the all-time greats, Tendulkar, just once in his life during the 2009 Champions Trophy in South Africa and a dismissal he could never forget.
He took his leave saying: “For three days after his dismissal, I was not in my right mind; I couldn’t believe he had taken the wicket of Sachin Paaji. Notably, Kohli is currently playing in the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia.
