Guinness World Records has addressed the claims of Ghanaian chef Ebenezer Smith, who claims to have broken the record for the longest cooking marathon undertaken by an individual.

Chef Smith made this announcement during a press conference at La Hotel on July 2, 2024, presenting a certificate as proof of his achievement.

Chef Smith even presented a certificate to defend his claim of having passed the longest cooking marathon by an individual. Watch the video below

During the press conference in which the supposed achievement was announced, he stated.

“I am deeply humbled and humbled to announce that I am now the new cook-a-thon world record holder,” he said.

The inscription on his certificate reads: “The longest cooking marathon (individual) is 802 hours 25 minutes and was achieved by Ebenezer Smith (Ghanaian) at Spintex, Accra, Ghana. From February 1 to March 6, 2024.”

In an official response email from GHone TV, Guinness World Records debunked the claim, confirming that the individual who holds the record for the longest cooking marathon is Alan Fisher of Ireland, who achieved a time of 119 hours, 57 minutes and 16 seconds in Matsue. Shimane, Japan from September 28 to October 3, 2023.

This investigation was necessary due to doubts about the authenticity of Chef Smith’s certificate and the lack of availability of publications in the Guinness World Records confirming his supposed feat.

Guinness World Records confirms that Ghanaian Chef Smith ‘does not hold the GWR title’ and that his certificate is not original

A further update from TV3 Ghana on Guinness World Records confirms that the information is false as they communicated directly with Guinness World Records through account X.

GWR has verified to TV3 that Chef Smith does not record the longest cooking time.

Another update from Guinness World Records reveals that the cooking marathon record is no longer valid.

GWR has deactivated several records for various reasons, such as the removal of the fastest violinist record in 2017 due to difficulties in judging the quality of performances.

According to a report by Asase Fm, Ghanaian Chef Ebenezer Smith has been arrested by the Ghana Police and is currently detained at the La Police Station in Accra.

The details of his arrest are still unclear, but it comes shortly after Chef Smith announced his recognition by the Guinness Book of World Records for achieving the record time in a cooking marathon.

According to additional sources, Nana Boroo was reported to have brought security personnel to the conference venue due to an alleged contract dispute with Smith.
