The hamstring injury suffered by Bukayo Saka comes at the “perfect time” for Arsenal.
This is according to former Tottenham, Newcastle and England striker Les Ferdinand, who believes the winger could benefit from a rest over the festive period.
“It would be a big loss” – Eddie Howe is ‘nervous’ about the future of Arsenal and PSG target Alexander Isak!
Saka has arguably been Arsenal’s best player this season, scoring nine goals and 13 assists in 24 appearances in all competitions. That includes an impressive five goals and 10 assists in 16 Premier League games.
However, Saka lasted just 24 minutes in Arsenal’s clash against Crystal Palace on Saturday night before suffering a hamstring injury.
The Gunners recorded a 5-1 win at Selhurst Park without Saka but could miss him over the festive period, especially with the EFL Cup and FA Cup ties taking place in January against Newcastle United and Manchester United respectively. .
“He felt something in his hamstring and couldn’t continue,” Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said of Saka. “He’s going to have to be evaluated because he’s really concerned about it.”
While Saka’s absence is undoubtedly a blow for Arsenal, Ferdinand believes he arrives at the best possible time, giving him the opportunity to rest and return fresh for the final sprint.
“If there was a perfect time to get injured, it would be now. “If I was going to be out for any length of time, it would be during this Christmas period,” the Sky Sports pundit said (via TBR).
“If you look at the games ahead of them, there is no Champions League, it gives him a little time to rest, we are talking about players who play a lot of games, I think he has not had a period in which he has been out for a long time” . any period of time.
“I think if it’s out for a while now, it will serve them well when it starts around January or February.”
