Marvel 1943 Writer Talks Wakanda, Cap/Black Panther Dynamic

the next Marvel 1943: The Rise of Hydra puts players in the shoes of Captain America and Black Panther, who become uneasy allies in stopping the Nazis during World War II. If that wasn’t enticing enough for you, the game comes courtesy of Skydance and Amy Hennig, director and writer of titles like the first three. Unexplored games and Kain’s Legacy series.

So far, Marvel’s entire crop of triple-A games have been set in the relative present, but Hennig spoke with Entertainment Weekly about how the game is based on the World War II setting. As she tells it, it allowed her and co-writers Marc Bernardin and Todd Stashwick to tell a story in the vein of action-adventure films set in that era. Think of a “guys on a mission” movie where they kill or beat up Nazis, and it sounds like you’ll have a good idea of what to expect here. The ultimate goal, according to Hennig, is to give players “the look, feel and sound of watching a great Marvel movie or TV show, but you’re the one directing the action.”

From Wonder 1943 is a “globe-trotting story,” players will go to a variety of locations, including occupied Paris and Azzuri’s home nation of Wakanda. In the game, it is isolated from the outside world and protected by an “impenetrable jungle,” but Hennig said Wakandans are “drawn” to war. As much as they have adopted a hands-off stance, “the world is getting smaller and they have to protect their interests. (…) You can shoot down planes that might want to fly over Wakanda, but how long can you stay in the shadows?” That question will be explored through the eyes of Azzuri and Steve, as well as their respective primary allies, Wakandan spy Nanali and Howling Commando Gabe Jones; All four are said to be playable at all times. wonder 1943, so everyone will probably have something to say about it.

Marvel/Skydance games
As for Cap and Panther, Hennig said Steve is still a bit of a rookie as a soldier, while Azzuri has more experience and maturity under his belt. He trailer from earlier this year gave a glimpse of what that first meeting will be like, but like all the “guys in a mission movie,” they are united by their concerns “about the same events that are happening.” Nothing brings people together like fighting Nazis, which could ultimately be the central message of the game and Marvel stories in general: “Good people have to work together to defeat evil. If you separate, you will not succeed.”

Marvel 1943: The Rise of Hydra It is expected to launch in 2025 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
