Details about Peter Thomas’ prison sentence

TMZ reports that Peter Thomas was sentenced to 18 months in federal prison for failing to pay more than $2.5 million in employment taxes. The Baltimore Flag revealed that Thomas pleaded guilty to “one count of failure to pay trust fund taxes” last summer in federal court in Charlotte.

U.S. District Judge Kenneth D. Bell Sr. placed Thomas on two years of supervised release and ordered him to repay the money. Assistant U.S. Attorney Caryn Finley also pushed for him to be sentenced to at least two years behind bars, accusing him of being greedy and ignoring the law. She claimed he used the cash to “personally enrich himself and expand and support his other business ventures,” spending more than $250,000 on luxury splurges at places like Prada, Louis Vuitton and Givenchy, according to The Baltimore Banner.

“Americans can spend their money as they see fit, even on commercial projects. However, they can’t steal other people’s money (in this case, their employees’ payroll taxes) to prop up their otherwise failing businesses,” Finley wrote in a sentencing memorandum.

TMZ claims Peter owed the IRS nearly $650,000 in trust fund taxes from his Charlotte employees’ salaries. He is also accused of omitting more than $2.5 million in employment taxes in several states over six years. The Baltimore Banner adds that between 2017 and 2023, the ‘RHOA’ alum ran businesses such as Club ONE CLT, Sports ONE, Bar One Miami Beach and Bar One Baltimore, where more than $1.7 million was taken from the paychecks of employees without paying them to the IRS, according to federal prosecutors.
