Heung-Min Son’s goal straight from a corner helped secure Tottenham’s 4-3 victory over Manchester United in a hectic Carabao Cup quarter-final tie.
Dominic Solanke’s brace and Dejan Kulusevski’s effort looked to set up a comfortable night for Spurs, but two errors from goalkeeper Fraiser Forster put United back in the game.
A sloppy first pass allowed Joshua Zirkzee to reduce the deficit before Amad Diallo closed in on his clearance to set up a nervy finish.
But United’s hopes of a remarkable comeback were dashed when Son scored directly from a corner in another moment of horror for a goalkeeper, this time from visiting stopper Altay Bayindir.
Jonny Evans headed another goal for United in injury time but it was not enough to prevent Ange Postecoglou’s men from joining Liverpool, Arsenal and Newcastle in the semi-finals.
The hosts took the lead through Solanke on 15 minutes after assistant goalkeeper Altay Bayindir failed to catch James Maddison’s free kick, and the former Bournemouth striker made no mistake on the rebound.

Kulusevski then saved United’s block and brilliantly beat a defender before his strong shot was saved.
The Swedish striker was at the center of another predicament for the Red Devils when a clever combination with Heung-Min Song finally found its way, with his pass blocked by Manuel Ugarte narrowly missing.
And the in-form 24-year-old scored his goal – his fourth in as many games – less than a minute into the second half, when Lisandro Martínez mishandled Maddison’s cut-back, allowing the Spurs man to capitalize on another goal. Joined error.

For the second time this season, Spurs won 3-0 against United as Solanke jumped the offside trap before slotting past Martinez and Evans before scoring his second with ease.

Substitute Joshua Zirkzee produced United’s first notable chance of the second half, heading the ball towards goal and forcing a strong save from Forster.
But the goalkeeper’s joy was short-lived, as he carelessly gave the ball to Bruno Fernandes, who found Zirkzee to finish easily and reduce the gap.

That goal threatened to unsettle Spurs and galvanize United, and substitute Amad Diallo saw an effort deflected narrowly miss the post after a succession of corners.
Soon it was 3-2 in the most extraordinary way and it was all the work of the hosts. A series of sloppy passes put Forster under pressure before Amad closed in on the veteran stopper’s clearance and deflected it to send shockwaves across north London.

Hearts continued to be in mouths as the final 10 minutes approached, particularly when Forster opted to bizarrely avoid a long-range strike from Amad with his feet rather than his hands.
But United’s hopes of an improbable comeback ended when Son found the net from a rare Spurs corner, and the ball slipped past Bayandir in another forgettable moment in this Carabao Cup tie.

Just when you thought the action was over, Evans headed in a third for United but it was not enough to prevent Spurs from progressing as Postecoglou keeps his promise of a trophy alive in his second season in charge.
