Schell Games releases crazy mixed reality game Party Versus in VR

Match versusa mixed reality social party game from Schell Games, launches today as an exclusive to the Meta Quest 3 and Meta Quest 3S virtual reality headsets.

It’s a crazy game where VR players can throw balls at each other in a game of catch and participate in over a dozen other silly mini-games. It costs $10 and is available now in the Meta Horizon Store, or it’s free with a Meta Quest+ subscription.

Developed by Schell gamesThe studio behind Among Us VR and the I Expect You To Die series, Party Versus offers a new level of social gaming. Party Versus invites players and their friends around the world to play over a dozen mini-games in a shared virtual space for 2 to 4 players who want to have some casual, silly fun in mixed reality.

Party Versus is more than just a party game: whether you play Sticky Potato, Spike Attack, or Milky Way Moovers, there’s tons of fun and mayhem to immerse yourself in in this crazy multiplayer experience. Play over a dozen hilarious mini-games (and totally twisted versions too) that will leave you and your friends laughing your way to the coveted neon crown of the Party.

“Party Versus is about creating unforgettable game night moments with friends and family, but in a way never seen before, combining the real world with the virtual so you can play with anyone, anywhere. “We can’t wait for players to experience the fun, creativity, community, and pure chaos that is Party Versus,” Jesse Schell, CEO of Schell Games, said in a statement.

This highly social game is the next evolution of standard in-person game nights. Players enter Party Versus and immediately go to the Party Lounge, and when the party begins, each player’s room merges into a cohesive mixed reality environment. This reality-bending setup allows players to bring their real-world furniture into the action, where they can bounce objects off walls or hide behind their couch, creating an immersive, interactive experience that showcases the potential of mixed reality.

Here’s a sample of the fun Party Versus minigames:

  • Hot Potato: Hurry to get the hot potatoes out of your room before they explode! Since your friend’s room is now part of the game, throw one behind his bed or on his couch, make him work for it! The potatoes continue to multiply, guaranteeing a frenetic ending.
  • Spike Attack – In this dodgeball-like minigame, take your ammo from spawn points throughout your room, but be prepared to take cover! As soon as your opponents throw you, spikes sprout from the balls and can no longer be caught (only deflected!). Keep an eye out for the high-value golden balls that appear near the center of the four rooms and time yourself so you can grab them without getting hit.
  • Pop Pals – In this fast-paced team balloon popping race, work together to pop your balloons faster. Order is important and the numbered balloons are divided between your room and your teammate’s room, so communication is key. Each balloon is worth points, but complete a set to get a bonus and activate the next higher group to appear.

A new way to celebrate

You can choose your game mode in Party Versus. Modes include:

  • Party Playoffs: Players compete against their friends for Party Crown with over six varieties of mini-games. Winner takes all in free-for-all and team-based mini-games.
  • Quick Party – Choose any of the mini-games for everyone to play together
  • Make new friends: Play with your friends at a private party or find a public party to make lots of new friends.
  • Be amazed by mixed reality: incorporate games directly into your gaming space, but transforming your room into a mixed reality party: even the furniture will be part of the action. Quick, watch out for that hot potato behind your couch.
  • Earn Party Favors: What’s a party without gifts? Win mini-games to earn wands, glow sticks, and flares for yourself or to share with friends.
  • Get Twisted: Certain minigames will come with Twisted mode, meaning you can play backwards or see your friends’ rooms completely reversed.
