A pizzeria in Chattanooga, TennesseeHe said it was a choice of “personal conviction” not to provide catering services for same-sex weddings after critics criticized him for that policy.
The wood-fired pizzeria Pizzeria Cortile published a statement on your facebook account on Tuesday confirmed his policy after a left-wing media company drew attention to it the day before.
“We recently made the difficult decision not to host a wedding due to our personal beliefs” wrote Pizzeria Cortile. “This belief comes from a place of personal conviction, which we know is not shared by everyone, and which we hold without judging others. This decision was not intended to harm or hurt anyone, and we are sorry for the pain this has caused people who have been part of our community.
“We acknowledge and listen to the comments of everyone who has reached out today. We hope that in time we can find an opportunity to extend grace and listen to each other, and remember that, although we may not always agree, we can still treat each other others. with dignity and love.”

The statement thanked the community and asked that it be given the opportunity to “continue to show them love when they walk through our doors.”
Pizzeria Cortile restricted comments on that specific post. However, its Facebook page was inundated with hundreds of negative comments criticizing the decision in other unrelated posts.
The previous post from Sunday with photos of one of their dishes received more than 1,500 comments reacting to the controversy in the last 24 hours.
“There are no two reasonable sides here. Nobody asked you to be gay. Or to promote any type of message. They ordered pizza. And the fans refused. That’s the whole story. It’s not deeper. “It’s discrimination between whites and blacks,” reads a Facebook comment with more than 200 likes.

“Are you going to start asking your customers their sexual orientation when they enter the neighborhood?” Another important position was mocked. “Being bisexual, am I welcome?… Could you go ahead and put on your website that you don’t serve or cater to gay people either.”
Another important comment suggested that someone alert the IRS to audit the company.
Online commentators also criticized the owners as “bigoted” and wished their business would be affected by the news.
One commentator defended the business, citing Supreme Court Precedent.
“The Supreme Court has ruled on this and, in fact, this is not discrimination. You are free to make your own decisions, but so are they. Who are you to force another person to share your beliefs and then expect them to don’t do the same? ”the comment said.

The avalanche of negative attention appeared to be fueled by posts on Reddit and readers of the progressive news website The Chattanooga Holler, which first drew attention to the company’s policy on Monday.
“INBOX: Evidently Pizzeria Cortile will not be catering same-sex weddings. It will simply allow people to not waste their time (or money),” Chattanooga Holler posted on its social media accounts, along with a screenshot of the response from the pizzeria.
“All I hear is ‘God allows us to be homophobic,'” one person mocked Holler’s Facebook post.
“Calling bigotry a ‘personal conviction’ is a big twist,” another person added.
A social media post titled “Great L for Pizzeria Cortile,” on the Chattanooga Reddit on Monday also generated more than 900 comments, with most appearing to criticize the business.
Pizzeria Cortile did not respond to a request for comment.
