Serie A, La Liga, Ligue 1, Bundesliga highlights

On Sunday there were matches from the Spanish La Liga, Italy’s Serie A, the German Bundesliga and France’s Ligue 1.

Among the teams in action, Bayer Leverkusen and Stuttgart hoped to stay in the race behind German leader Bayern Munich.

Roma also hoped to beat beleaguered Juventus and draw level with the Italian leaders and defending champions Napoli.

Osasuna vs Celta de Vigo: Durán winner

Celta de Vigo moved level on points with Osasuna and one point above the relegation zone with a 3-2 away victory.

Ferran Jutgla put Celta ahead from the edge of the area, but Ante Budimir scored from a penalty and headed in a corner to make it 2-1 for the hosts at half-time.

Jutgla found a corner to equalize before Budimir’s penalty hit the crossbar. Pablo Durán scored the winning goal three minutes from time, beating goalkeeper Sergio Herrera.

Rayo Vallecano vs Alaves: Alemao joy

Brazilian striker Alemao headed the only goal of the game in the 91st minute to lift Rayo Vallecano to seventh place with their fourth victory of the season.

In a play full of opportunities, substitute Isi Palazón fired against a post during the second half before Alemao finished off a cross from Pep Chavarría.

“I have wanted this moment so much and it is here,” Alemao said after his first goal in the top flight. “It’s an incredible feeling.”

Mallorca vs Levante: Point each

Pablo Maffeo fired in from outside the box with 11 minutes left to give Mallorca a 1-1 draw at home to Levante, who took the lead when Etta Eyong jumped into the box to score the first goal in the 22nd minute.

José Luis Morales could have given Levante the victory in added time of the second half, but he was prevented from doing so by an excellent save by Leo Román.

Levante are unbeaten in four away games and join Mallorca in being above the relegation zone on goal difference.

Lazio vs Juventus: basic bag winner

Toma Basic took advantage of a poor back pass from Jonathan David to score the winning goal in the ninth minute, as Lazio beat Juventus 1-0 and moved into tenth, one point behind their opponents.

Juve have lost their last three games in all competitions, are winless for eight and failed to score in more than six and a half hours of football, intensifying the pressure on coach Igor Tudor.

“We get to the penalty area and then we don’t put the ball in the net,” Tudor told DAZN Italia, via Gianluca DiMarzio.

“We also tell ourselves ‘don’t make mistakes’, but there’s always a mistake and we lose games. We feel terrible, but we have to stick together.”

“I don’t care about my future. I have to have a clear head and be aware of the present.”

Sassuolo vs Roma: Dybala decisive

Paulo Dybala scored his first Serie A goal of the season in the 16th minute to send Roma to the top alongside the defending champions.

Dybala converted after giving a pass to Bryan Cristante for a shot that goalkeeper Arijanet Muric deflected to the Argentine forward.

Roma have won all four of their away games this season and ended a two-game losing streak in all competitions with the victory, leaving Sassuolo in 13th place.

Torino vs Genoa: Maripán attacks late

A half-volley from Guillermo Maripán in the 90th minute gave 12th-placed Torino a 2-1 comeback against bottom-placed Genoa.

The first two goals were due to poor defense. Morten Thorsby scored from close range in the eighth minute for the visitors.

An own goal by Stefano Sabelli in the 63rd minute started the comeback. Genoa is two points away from salvation.

Verona vs Cagliari: happy comeback

Fourth-bottom Verona are still seeking their first win of the season after taking a two-goal lead in a 2-2 draw with 14th-placed Cagliari.

Roberto Gagliardini headed home and Suat Serdar hit the crossbar for Cagliari before Gift Orban poked the ball in as part of a counterattack in the 59th minute.

A firm strike from Riyad Idrissi halved the deficit with 13 minutes remaining and Mattia Felici scored a stylish equalizer in the 92nd minute after a fine run.

Fiorentina vs Bologna: Kean’s penalty heroics

Fiorentina are winless and in the relegation zone, but rescued a point through second-half penalties from Albert Gudmondsson and, in the 94th minute, Moise Kean to earn a 2-2 draw against Bologna.

A sublime volley from Santiago Castro gave Bologna the first half and Nicolo Cambiaghi scored from close range seven minutes after the break for the visitors, who sent off Emil Holm for a second booking with seven minutes remaining.

The red and whites, fifth placed, are undefeated in six games in Serie A.

Bundesliga results today

Bayer Leverkusen vs Freiburg: triumph for the hosts

Fifth-placed Leverkusen are four points ahead of sixth-placed Eintracht Frankfurt and seven behind Bayern after winning 2-0 at 11th-place Freiburg and seeing centre-back Philipp Lienhart sent off for a second booking in the 75th minute.

Ernest Poku scored an excellent first goal from long range in the 22nd minute, and Edmond Tapsoba headed the second from a cross from Aleix García in the 52nd minute.

Leverkusen are now unbeaten in seven domestic matches and have won their last three, bouncing back from their 7-2 home defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Stuttgart vs Mainz: Undav returns

Stuttgart are one point above Leverkusen in third place after claiming a fifth straight league win with a 2-1 victory over 16th-place Mainz.

Nadiem Amiri gave Mainz the confidence to avoid a fourth consecutive top-flight defeat by converting a 41st-minute penalty, but Chris Fuhrich’s spectacular goal during first-half stoppage time restored parity.

Making his first start since August following an injury, former Brighton & Hove Albion striker Deniz Undav collected a pass from goalkeeper Alexander Nubel and scored the winning goal in the 80th minute.

Today’s League 1 results

Lille vs Metz: LOSC cruise

Felix Correia scored in each half and the 6-1 win over Metz moved Lille three points behind leaders PSG in fifth place.

Hamza Igamane, Romain Perraud, Benjamin Andre and Hakon Haraldsson also scored, as did Ibou Sane in the 95th minute for the visitors.

Metz, which has not won, is the only team that has not achieved at least two victories in Ligue 1 this season and is six points away from safety with a significant goal disadvantage.

Lyon vs Strasbourg: Moreira’s magic

Fourth-placed Lyon is one point above Lille after coming from behind to win 2-1 at seventh-placed Strasbourg.

Joaquín Panichelli gave the visiting team the lead in the 25th minute, but an own goal by Ismael Doukoure tied OL six minutes later.

Doukoure received a straight red card for a challenge before Afonso Moreira scored the decisive goal in the 91st minute.

Angers vs Lorient: hosts end drought

Angers are two points above the relegation zone after ending a seven-game winless streak with a 2-0 victory over Lorient.

Prosper Peter broke the deadlock in the 16th minute and Sidiki Cherif sealed the result in the 59th minute to leave Lorient with one point from five away games this season.

Les Merlus dominated possession and had 13 of the 20 attempts between the teams, but are one point above the bottom two.

Auxerre vs Le Havre: Touré scores points

Only Metz have a worse record than Auxerre’s total of six defeats, after the penultimate team lost 1-0 against Le Havre, who are two points above them.

Abdoulaye Touré’s goal in the 47th minute gave the visitors their second victory of the season and their first on the road.

Le Havre also ended their five-match wait to win as Le Club Doyen bounced back from their 6-2 defeat in Marseille eight days earlier.

Rennes vs Nice: goals from Diop and Clauss

Nice claimed back-to-back league wins and are unbeaten in four in the top flight after a 2-1 win at 10th-place Rennes.

Sofiane Diop and Jonathan Clauss gave the hosts a 2-0 half-time lead before 19-year-old Moroccan defender Abdelhamid Ait Boullal responded.

Although Nice are eighth, Rennes’ six-game unbeaten run (five of which were draws) came to an end despite Habib Beye’s team making eight of 11 attempts.
