“Predator” of 1987 is one of the most intelligent and successful gender combat films ever made. It brings together the war film “Men on Mission”, the creature has a horror movie and a high concept science fiction premise, and does so in a way that feels completely natural and aerodynamics. Thanks to the fact that he has so much promise in his conceptual ideas, the “predator” franchise could have gone any number of forms, and that is exactly what happened. “Predator 2” changed to the suspense mode of the Urban Police, “Predators” turned the script of the first film throwing human warriors to an alien jungle, “the predator” doubled in the science fiction and “prey” elements introduced the idea of the people of the past of the earth who meets a yautja (something that the animated murderer of the murderer of the murderers of the murderers of the murderers of the murderers of the murderers. Cross films “Alien vs Predator” focused less on the mashups of titular monsters and more on the difficult situation of unpleasant humans trapped between two mortal species.
All this is to say that the “Predator” property had never before adopted its roots of creature characteristics. This makes sense; The Yautja have been portrayed as autonomous beings, highly intelligent and even somewhat honorable, not organisms that simply live to kill and spread like xenomorph. However, Stan Winston’s design for the predator was born one of the best movie monsters in history, and seems like a lost opportunity not to try to follow that thread. Of course, there have been clues in the Yautja fighting other alien creatures, and two of the “Predator” sequelae presented the predator, but this feels inappropriate for a series that now eight depth films. Fortunately, the final trailer of “Predator: Badlands” by Dan Trachtenberg seems to rectify this problem, since it is completely established in a totally strange world that is not inhabited by Yautja or humans. How the trailer promises. Finally we can be obtaining our “Predator” creature function.
Until now, there have been many talks around “Predator: Badlands” and its connections with the “Alien” franchise. Of course, it is very exciting that Elle Fanning be playing Thia, a synthetic Weyland-Yutani, who once again joins the “predator” and “Alien” properties. It is also great that Fanning apparently reproduces other synthesizers in the film, as the last trailer shows. However, all this cross talk and speculation that surrounds the role of Fanning has eclipsed what seems to be more of the main attraction in the film, which is the main Yautja, Dek (Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi), which faces a Guantlet of dead beasts on a remote planet.
The new trailer of “Badlands” puts this conflict in front and the center, since we see Dek (adorned with a fresh vehicle that looks like a cross between a fast bicycle and a lounge chair) meets a collection of threats through what Thia calls “the most dangerous planet in the universe.” We see a giant thing of tentacles that stalking through the forest, a monster similar to an elephant, a pterodactile flying thing, a plant with spikes that exploits, a colossus with several rows of teeth and, of course, other synthetic and yautja. This planet still without a name seems a cross between Skull Island of the “King Kong” and Pandora films of the “Avatar” franchise, which covers with mortal aliens creatures. Although “Badlands” seems clearly that it belongs to the films “Predator”, the “Avatar” comparison feels adequate given how both properties are owned by the studies of the twentieth century. You could say that “Badlands” could end up looking like and feeling like a more violent and more violent “avatar”. As such, this is another example of the “Predator” brand that expands not only in tone and form, but also in aesthetics.
In Warner Bros., the Monsterverse has been built during the last decade and changes as the response of the United States to Toho Kaiju cycles, with Godzilla, Kong, Mothra and other giant monsters that threaten the earth. Until now, however, the xenomorphs and Yautja have been mainly for the “Alien” and “Predator” franchises, but each successive sequel has introduced some variation in creatures, if not a new one. (Think of the alien queen of “Aliens” or the Super Predator of “The Predator”). The “alien” films such as “Prometheus” have even introduced the idea of a black fluid that can mutate beings in new monsters. Then, given this growing list of creatures, could the study of the twentieth century expand the shared “alien” and “predator” universe in a full -fledged creature?
More recently, “Alien: Earth” of FX introduced several new mortal creatures in the tradition of franchises, and has not yet been revealed where the maginot of the condemned spacecraft picked up these beasts. If “alien” were a property on its own, it could be assumed that the ship found these creatures in Origae-6 (or a planet like this), where the black mutagen has infected local flora and fauna. However, we now have this “Badlands” planet in the mixture. Could these creatures have originated there? After all, the tentact giant orb in the “Badlands” trailer resembles a relevant lot like T.ocelo, the tentactile eyeball creature that caused a dip in season 1 of “Alien: Earth”. In addition, it seems that Weyland-Yutani Corporation aggressively pursues its interest in capturing biowapons there, also, with all elegants and what not. We do not even know when in the “alien” https://www.slashfilm.com/ “Badlands” “Predator” “Badlands” is carried out. Could it be concurrent with “Alien: Earth”, making it the first “predator” film that is established more in the future?
Whatever the case, there is no doubt that very exciting things are happening in both franchises. If the previous films of “Predator” of Trachtenberg are an indication, we are reserved to obtain even more surprises when “Predator: Badlands” arrives at theaters on November 7, 2025.
