Man Utd question several players over lineup leaks

According to a report, Manchester United’s hierarchy have questioned at least two of their own players over the numerous leaks revealing the team’s early news.

Rubén Amorim’s team’s starting XI for Sunday’s Manchester derby was leaked on match day at the Etihad. The news given by Manchester Evening News Journalist Samuel Luckhurst was proven right and it was not the first time that United’s line-up was revealed well before kick-off.

This trend has persisted under numerous management regimes, targeting one member of the playing staff.

a report of The times claims that members of United staff have asked two players if they, or any of their associates, were responsible for leaks to the press. Both individuals quashed the suggestion of any involvement.

Despite this line of questioning, United insists that no formal investigation has been launched.

Pep Guardiola made the step up to Amorim’s eleven but still saw his Manchester City side conspire to lose 2-1 in the dying embers of a largely drab derby. Still riding high on a crucial win after back-to-back defeats, the United manager was asked about his loquacious team member.

“I know that story,” Amorim told reporters after the game. “I don’t know, I think that nowadays it is impossible to fix it because there are a lot of people in the club, the players talk to the agents.

“I don’t know, you can talk to friends, so it’s hard to say. It’s not a good thing, but let’s move on and move on to the next one and see if they find the next starting eleven.”

The biggest news from Amorim’s leaked lineup concerned the players who weren’t involved. Surprisingly, both Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho were dropped from the team entirely. United’s new manager hinted at a drop in standards when explaining the duo’s absence, but insisted both would be considered for the squad again.

The ‘leaker’ in the United ranks will be worried about Thursday’s visit to Tottenham Hotspur in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup.
