When I first heard about The babysitterI was a little nervous; After all, it was an exclusive Netflix horror movie (Strike One) and directed by MCG, the guy who brought us Terminator salvation (Hit two). After years of seeing it in my Netflix tail, I decided Shout I did in 1996. And he made it by asking the most provocative question: what happens if Only at home Had it been a horror movie?
The 2017 premise The babysitter It is pleasant and simple: a first -year student of the High School has developed a good relationship with their hot nanny thanks to their parents often staying in a hotel for a private/dad time. He never had any reason to worry about his babysitter, but he makes the mistake of seeing what she and her friends do after he is going to sleep. It turns out that they are complete cultists, and when you discover your satanic pranks, all your ingenuity is needed to avoid becoming your next sacrifice.
While it seems completely condemned at first glance, nobody knows their own home as our young protagonist. This allows him to fill Kevin McCallister in his possible murderers, and armed everything from the aerosol to the leftover fireworks. This effectively subverts the typical slasher formula, and it is very fun to see the forms increasingly in dementia that our last child can take care of this murderous mafia.
The film loves largely due to Samara Weaving, who plays the head nanny. It is both sexy, solidarity and psychotic, and imbues what could have been a one -dimensional role with a surprising amount of depth deliciously deadly. In addition to that, he has a great relationship with Judah Lewis, the young man who gives our male protagonist a fun, sincere and genuinely nuanced performance.
The rest of the cast of The babysitter He really takes him out of the park, including Ken Marino and Leslie Bibb as the fucked and extravagant parents who without knowing it hired a murderer to see his son. Bella Thorne does a murderous job as a cheerleader who brings a little dizzy Bad girls Energy in the circle of Satanists. However, the true prominent cultist is interpreted by Robbie Amell, who joins fun with our hero while making it clear that he is in the murder business for the bloody love of the game.
As other reviewers have pointed out, The babysitter Do not dramatically reinvents the Slasher genre, since most of its central elements (the slasher, the surprising murderer and the ingenious hero) can be found in innumerable other gender films. But the film effectively synthesizes all these elements in something that always feels fresh, new and exciting. And even when the MCG director is flagrantly copying another person’s task, he is doing it in a style that most horror directors can only scream, they are dreaming.
The film was successful enough to justify a sequel, which deepens some of the relationships of these characters and promotes the tradition behind the motivations of spooky cult. It is worth visiting that sequel for many reasons (including a great performance by Jenna Ortega), but there is nothing like the original. And if you are ready to experience one of the most elegant and perfectly chosen slashers of the modern era, be sure to review The babysitter In Netflix.
