The voice recordings recovered from the Air Indian crash cabin last month reveal a moment of confusion among the pilots after the plane engines lost abruptly fuel only a few seconds after takeoff.
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner engines, which crashed and caused the most fatal aviation accident in the world in a decade, were hungry for fuel when the engine cutting switches suddenly turned to the half -flight, according to a preliminary report published on Saturday by the India Aircraft Accident Research Office (AAIB).
The jetliner bound for London began to clash less than a minute after taking off on June 12 from Ahmedabad airport in Western Indiakilling a total of 260 people and miraculously leaving a British national as the only survivor.
According to the report, a pilot is heard in the voice recorder of the cabin asking the other “why did he cut”, to which the other replied that “he did not”? The voices were not attributed to the pilot Captain Sumeet Sabharwal or the Clive Kundar co -pilot.
Only survivor of a deadly air accident says that survival was a “miracle”

The researchers discovered that the fuel control switches had changed “run” to “cut” almost simultaneously shortly after takeoff. However, the report did not clarify how or why the switches changed position. These switches are generally used to turn off engines after landing or emergency situations, such as a fire in the engine, not during takeoff.
On the accident site, both fuel switches were found in the “executing” position, indicating that the engines were automatically required but could not quickly reverse the rapid loss of thrust of the plane, according to the report.

The clash has raised the renewed scrutiny on the design and placement of critical fuel cutting switches.
The report indicated that in 2019, the Federal Aviation Administration of the USA issued a special aircraft information newsletter (SAIB) that warns that some Boeing 737 fuel switches had been installed with its disconnected block characteristics. However, the problem was not considered dangerous enough to require compulsory repairs or actions under federal aviation rules.
The same switch design was used on the air plane from Air India, but Air India did not perform inspections since the alert was advised.

Air India confirmed in a statement that The airline He had received the preliminary AAIB report and said he would continue to cooperate completely with the researchers.
“Air India remains in solidarity with families and those affected by AI171’s accident,” said Air India. “We continue to cry the loss and we are totally committed to provide support during this difficult time.”

“Air India is working closely with interested parties, including regulators,” Air India continued. “We continue to cooperate completely with the AAIB and other authorities such as its Research progresses”
AAIB is expected to produce a more detailed report in 12 months.
