Stephen King is my favorite author. It has always been a good time to be a fan of his works and also a giant film film because King’s stories continually get adaptations of study characteristics.
And this year it seems an absolute prominent of its filmography. My Favorite movie of the year So far it is Osgood Perkins’ The monkeyA wild interpretation of King’s story of the same name. We also received films in 2025 based on two of my favorite King novels of all time (written under his pseudonym Richard Bachman), The long walk and The man running.
And if the trailers of those films are honest representations of their final products, it will be a year Banner for constant readers.
That is why the announcement of a new film adaptation of The stand It could be said that it is the most foolish and deflated news of the movie Stephen King that could happen.
Doug Liman has been revealed as director of a new film adaptation of study of the epic and historical novel by Stephen King, The stand. When this was announced recently, it immediately evoked all the reasons in my opinion why it was a bad idea instead of a good one.
First, doing The stand In a movie, he immediately elevates the red flags for fans. History is an extensive epic that needs a lot of time to tell its story. Trying to condense much of the characters of the novel and draw in a format of length of the film is a discouraging and inherently defective effort. Even if they divide the film into two parts (which is what I hope), it is only the incorrect format for a story that depends so on many in -depth interactions of the characters for a significant period of time.
Not to mention that Doug Liman’s participation is also doubtful when it comes to a potential quality. It is not that Liman is an inevitably bad or unavailable director, but I will argue that his best moment has passed. His last film that was worth more than a decade ago and Edge of tomorrowThe address is not what makes that film a favorite of a pleasant worship. And I suppose everyone is collecting collectively Chaos walking and Roadway In a memory hole, I can’t discuss.
Look, The stand It is a phenomenal story and certainly deserves an adaptation that will do justice. According to the 1994 miniseries, it may not have aged well, but it is totally commendable for doing everything possible to offer faithful adaptation. And although we have apparently abandoned (and correctly) the limited series 2020, it resembles The stand He has already had some snacks in the cinematographic apple.
Part of what makes this year so exciting for King fans is to see the stories that have not received a suitable shake before. The long walk It is a film that has been trying to do for decades. The monkey It is a short story that I had never seen the light of the silver screen (no, I am not recognizing The Devil’s Gift/Merlin’s Shop of Mystical Wonders). Yeah, The man running They made me an Arnold vehicle and I love its brand of lunkhead, but it is exceptionally far from the real history of the novel. Edgar Wright’s film is giving Bachman’s novel his first taking to be represented and properly translated into a film.
Drop the “we are doing The stand! … again! “In the middle of a year with so many fresh adaptations of Stephen King there is a moment that does not read the room. The girl who loved Tom Gordon? Ecstatic! Laika announced a stop-motion feature of Dragon’s eyes? Great! There are still so many King stories that have not reached the screen, so get another riff about The stand It is a betrayal of these potential projects.
If Doug Liman’s The stand It ends up, sincerely I hope to be wrong about it. I hope it is the best adaptation so far and that it is so good to do it Misery seems Grass grass 2: Beyond cyberspace. I will not make my hopes, but I will allow the possibility that it is a third riff worthy of the book.
Maybe this is an unpopular opinion, but The stand Actually, it is one of King’s stories that I think is better at home in its original environment. It is not something that I obviously consider cinematographic. It is not that it cannot be, but it is a better threaded thread through the word written on the page.
They are going to do The stand No matter what you write on the Internet so that you can only pray to be interesting. But I will be here refreshing the news to see if I can anticipate a Stephen King movie that I have not seen before.
