Christmas ornament maker Mr. Christmas is recalling 44,600 wireless tree decoration light controllers over a possible fire risk.
Wireless receivers in recalled Christmas tree light controllers “may overheat, posing a fire hazard,” according to a recall notice published by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).
Receivers are one of two components that make up decorative light controllers for affected trees. The recalled model numbers, visible on the white receivers, include 39611, 39612 and 39630.

The “fast-track” recall, announced late last week, comes after 10 known cases of receivers overheating without causing injury, the CPSC said. In one incident, a fire broke out.

The CPSC’s rapid recall program “helps consumers by removing potentially dangerous products from the market as quickly and efficiently as possible, and rewards companies that act quickly,” according to the agency’s website.
“We are focused on manufacturing and providing you with high quality products,” Christmas said in a Facebook post about the recall. “Consumer safety is our number one priority.”
The recall covers more than 44,000 controllers.
Sales of the affected two-piece decorative tree lighting controllers occurred between July and November of this year. They were available through Walmart, Target and Cracker Barrel online and in brick-and-mortar stores nationwide.
The other component of the recalled lighting controllers varied in appearance depending on the retailer.

For the Walmart and Cracker Barrel versions, they were “shaped like a green, red, and white peppermint candy with a candy cane on/off lever,” the CPSC notice said.
Christmas sold the tree light controllers through Target, Walmart and Cracker Barrel.
Meanwhile, Target’s Christmas light controllers were “shaped like a square on/off switch box with green, red, and white balls,” according to the recall. They were branded “Wondershop.”
“Consumers should stop using this product immediately and return it to the place of purchase for a full refund,” Christmas said.
The recalled wireless decorative tree light controllers were priced between $25 and $40 at retailers, according to the CPSC.
