The referee of the final of the Copa del Rey tomorrow was reduced today after responding to a video broadcast on Real Madrid television that highlighted the mistakes he had apparently committed during his career.
Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea will officiate the Madrid game against Barcelona in Seville tomorrow with all his decisions that are probably examined after public criticism about the internal television channel of European champions.
De Burgos said that the video had had an impact on his family and fought to contain his emotion at a press conference today.
He said: “When a child arrives at school and his classmates tell him that his father is a thief, he gets sick.
“What I do is try to educate my son to tell him that his father is an honest man, who makes mistakes like any other athlete. It is very difficult, I do not recommend it to anyone.
“It is not correct what we are going through for many colleagues, not only in professional football, but also in base football. Let everyone reflect on where we want to go, about what we want from sports and football.”

Madrid has expressed its criticism of the referees this season, presenting a complaint letter with the Spanish FA (RFEF) and the High Council of Spain in February, claiming that the system was “manipulated” and “completely discredited”.
There was another violent reaction of the club’s supporters after the dismissal of midfielder Jude Bellingham for cursing referee José Munuera Montero during the tie in Osasuna.
Pablo González Fuertes, the VAR in the final of the Cup, said that the officials had had enough and suggested that they had reached the point of rupture.
He said: “We are going to start taking real measures, we will not continue to allow what is happening.
“In a few days everyone will see. We are going to make history and we will not continue to support what we are enduring. A strike? Will you have news of us soon.”
