Few early episodes of Star Trek: Travel They are as memorable as “the 37”, an episode in which Captain Janeway meets his idol, Amelia Earhart. It is a great episode on its own, but seeing it is even more rewarding when you know that the woman who played the personal idol of the captain was the greatest fan of the woman behind Janeway. Kate Mulgrew was absolutely idolized by the actor of Earheart Sharon Lawrence, and the two formed an instant link during the production of this episode.
More Traveler Fans do not know that if it weren’t for his love of Fangirl for Kate Mulgrew, Sharon Lawrence would never have taken the part of Amelia Earhart. Unlike many who made cameos in this famous franchise, Lawrence was not really familiar with Star Trek out of The original series. Therefore, he only brought the role of his interest in interpreting Earhart and his desire to meet Mulgrew, someone who had idolized since the major woman starred in the soap opera Ryan’s hope.
It may seem strange to think of modern Star Trek fans, but at that time, the Kate Mulgrew program needed Sharon Lawrence’s cameo far More than the actor. Lawrence had been recently nominated for an Emmy for his performance in Buzzworthy’s drama New York Police blueTherefore, he provided a real star power for the premiere of season 2 of this incipient science fiction spin-off. As for why she assumed the role, she later said she was excited to portray “one of our greatest national heroines” on the screen, and soon fell in love with the idea that his character develops a friendship with Janeway, giving these two feminist icons separated by centuries the opportunity to work together.
Fortunately, working with Kate Mulgrew, he lived up to Sharon Lawrence’s greatest hope: he informed that “it was a pleasure to work with her” and “he was so impressed with his professionalism.” Among the scenes, the two found time to join on several things they had in common, even having a theater background. Lawrence also took the time to ask Mulgrew “how he juggle to be an actress and mother”, something that many of his fans of Star Trek have also wondered over the years.
While Kate Mulgrew always has a great performance, her pending performance in “Los 37” was partly due to the presence of Sharon Lawrence. The youngest actor previously stated that “the relationship that Earhart and Janeway shared was easily influenced by the relationship that Kate and I shared.” This is reflected in his chemistry on the screen and helps to explain why Lawrence could cause such an impression on fans despite appearing only for a single episode.
Another reason why Kate Mulgrew and Sharon Lawrence probably got along is that they share the same open feminist ideals. Looking back in his time together, Lawrence said that playing “companions and leaders” instead of being in a “domestic or family or family relationship … He always feels good with me.” His time together was a bit of chance, which allowed two intrepid female icons for the opportunity to inspire a new generation of women to go to the fields.
Unfortunately, this is the only episode in which Kate Mulgrew and Sharon Lawrence had the opportunity to act together. But these actors took the most of their time together, raising a script already strong in an episode that Traveler Fans will never forget. And as for Janeway, it is fair to say that this fictional character has joined the true Amelia Earhart in the annals of the most inspiring women in modern history.
