Newcastle manager Eddie Howe praised his team for not getting distracted by the next final of the League Cup in Wembley to get a very necessary Premier League victory in West Ham.
Captain Bruno Guimaraes scored the only goal of the game to elevate the urracas to sixth place at the table.
Now they face Liverpool in Wembley on Sunday so that the chacen raises a Dmoestic trophy for the first time in 70 years.
Howe said: “That was one of our best victories of the season, not in terms of performance but desire and heart.
“We show all the great ingredients you need to be a successful team. You must win when the game is tight and find a way to overcome the line. We defended very well after the first three minutes that gave some fear. We deserved victory.
“That is why it was a good victory for me, it would be easy for players to be distracted but they were present. We will focus completely on Liverpool now. We will take everything into consideration.
“I felt that we needed a victory to enter the final with an impulse and a real elevator.”
The defeat for West Ham leaves them in 16th place, with Chief Graham Potter, discontent with the only goal of the game.
He said: “I thought it was a committed action of us.
“The game decreased and flowed. We are disappointed with the objective, it seems that two hands in the back of our center.
“We had some moments, not enough to win it, but we were committed enough to get enough of the game.
“We have tried to address the base and give us some stability. As I said, the effort, application and desire to run and suffer from each other were there.
“On the back of two victories, it is not built in one day. We have to move step by step. You have to keep moving. “
