Visi Bahl, founder of Veeba, has criticized the elevator of extreme work weeks, labeling the idea of 70 -hour work schedules as “crazy bats ** t”. While some industry leaders require more hours to increase productivity, Bahl firmly opposes the trend, which brings a clear line between what is reasonable for founders and their employees.
Speaking in the podcast * The Rockford Circle * with chitrangada singh, Bahl made clear their views when asked about employees who work 70 hours in the weeks. “It’s okay for a founder to work 70 hours because he is the largest commercial winner,” he said. “Waiting for your team to do the same?
Bahl, who launched Veeba in 2013, doubled in his posture. “I think the 70 -hour work week is a crazy idea,” he said. He stressed that if companies insist that employees have such hours, they must offer proportional compensation. “O Compensate them in the same way that it is being compensated for working 70 hours, proportionally, or not waiting for 70 hours to work,” added Bhal, who is also one of the judges in Shark Tank India, season 4.
His comments contrast with the opinions of the founder of Infosys, Narayana Murthy, who in 2023 asked employees to work 70 hours in weeks to boost the productivity of India. Murthy’s statement caused heated debates about work culture, with some corporate leaders supporting their suggestion. Bahl, however, sees it as an obsolete concept.
“Waiting for someone to work 70 hours without a capital value is obsolete,” he said. Bahl said Veeba has recently reduced the work hours of its employees. “In our company, we recently decided to shorten work hours. We now operate in a 40 -hour work week,” he explained.
Bahl’s opposition to the work culture of long hours makes it one of the few prominent business leaders to publicly challenge the growing trend. While the debate continues, Veeba’s change to a 40 -hour work week reflects Bahl’s firm belief that sustainable working conditions benefit both companies and their teams.
