In his letter to the UN Security Council, Iravani protested against what he described as the “deeply alarming and irresponsible comments” by Trump.

Tehran insists that its nuclear program is only for peaceful purposes and denies any intention to develop nuclear weapons.
During Trump’s first mandate, which ended in 2021, Trump retired from a historical agreement that had imposed curbs to Iran’s nuclear program in exchange for sanctions relief.
Tehran continued to adhere to the agreement, known as the joint integral action plan, up to one year after Washington, DC, retired, but then began to reverse his commitments.

On Friday, Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatolá Ali Khamenei, said there should be no negotiations with the United States after Trump suggested to attack a “nuclear peace agreement verified” with Iran.
“No problem will be solved negotiating with the United States,” Khamenei said, citing previous “experience.”
