The United States Department of Justice has told prosecutors to withdraw corruption positions against the mayor of New York City, Eric Adams.

In a memorandum seen by the American news partner of the BBC, CBS, the interim deputy attorney general Emil Bove, who was appointed by President Donald Trump, instructed federal prosecutors in the South District of New York to finish the case .

Adams was accused of five charges of bribery, conspiracy and campaign financing violations in September. He declared himself innocent.

He is accused of accepting illegal campaign funds and thousands of dollars for luxury trips of Turkish entrepreneurs and an official in exchange for his influence as mayor.
