David Lynch tried to give Stephen King a movie lesson while running the most overwhelmed

Stephen King is one of the most respected narrators of his generation, or any generation. The prolific word barely covers the production of man, from his first works as “the lot of Salem” to the most recent masterpieces such as “Renaissance.” For decades, King’s Works has inspired dozens of variable quality movies and television programs. In all those years, King directed only one of those films he himself in the form of “maximum overdrive”, a piece of film really with a wild story behind. At least a small part of that story implies no less than David Lynch.

King recently appeared as a guest in “The Kingcast” And he argued the movie. Released in the summer of ’86, the film was based on the story “Trucks” of the “Night Shift” stories collection. He retires after a strange comet passes through the earth, causing trucks and other machines to come alive. They quickly start killing people. Most of the story takes place at the Dixie Boy truck stop, where a rag group is caught. Chaos occurs.

“At that time, I was doing a lot of cocaine and I was drinking a lot,” King reflected. That explains why King has apologized repeatedly for making the film over the years. The author also explained that Lynch was filming his masterpiece “Blue Velvet” near at the same time.

“I thought I knew how to make movies,” King said. “I learned a lot doing ‘Maximum overwhelmed’. It was like this intensive seminar.

The crew, as it turned out, mostly did not speak English, which made production in “maximum overdrive” extremely difficult. “The only thing I learned is how to swear in Italian,” King joked. This became a problem when a King’s Crew member, the camera operator Daniele Nannuzzi, tried to explain why a shot he wanted to achieve was not going to work. The language barrier was getting in the way.

“He had a certain way that he wanted to move the camera and he said: ‘No, no, no Stephen! Cross the line!’ I really couldn’t understand it, “King explained. “The way you shoot a trio is the first year English, and this crossing of the line is like a seminar.”

What Nannuzzi tried to explain was something called 180 degree rule. I am not a filmmaker, but basically, the rule says that when you are filming two people, you stay on the same side of 180 degrees because if you cross that line, put the ability of the audience to know where the characters are in relation to between They and the environment. For experienced filmmakers, this is an accepted rule. For King, a writer was a foreign concept. He entered the deceased, Great David Lynch, who recently died at the age of 78. King met Lynch after finishing filming one day and decided to execute this little problem with him. Lynch did everything possible to explain it to King, but things don’t work exactly.
