It’s Friday, December 13, so it’s the perfect time for the spooky season to rise again in this week’s roundup of geeky, immersive, and theme park holiday news.
Just in time for Jason Voorhees’ favorite day, a happy horror holiday awaits you this month, with Nosferatu Inviting fans to a chilling, immersive theatrical experience, Disney Cruise launches a haunted mansion lounge bar, and gremlins and batman returns earning a feature on the Warner Bros. “Holidays Made Here” studio tour. Meanwhile, Universal Studios breaks loose The Grinch for Grinchmas and some unexpected winter fun at Super Nintendo World. As for Disney Experiences, the theme park festivities highlight those of Pixar coconut palm in a special cultural celebration.
Next week, waiting for the premiere of Robert Eggers Nosferatuimmersive theater giant Thirteenth Floor Entertainment, whose immersive division is led by Deception Creator Jon Braver will host a special engagement experience to bring the film to life for fans December 16-18. In Burbank, CA, you can get a behind-the-scenes look at all your favorite Warner Bros. movies, including festively curated exhibits on the “Holidays Made Here” studio tour. Included are dark horror-tinged favorites like batman returns, elves, and of course beetle juice beetle juice. Halloween is alive and well year-round in Burbank, CA, home of WB and Disney, with a lane on Magnolia Street filled with kitschy shops that have become their own destination for horror fans, including local favorites Mystic Museum and Halloweentown. New to the group is Horror Boodega, which features spooky tricks and treats year-round. This week it is celebrated on Friday the 13th, of course!
At Grinchmas, you can get into the Grinchy spirit with a live reprise of the Seuss classic featuring Cindy-Lou Who, the iconic Martha May, and the Grinch himself (their chemistry is always tremendous). That’s right: At Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Hollywood you can find adorable Christmas decorations, including these Mario and Luigi snowmen. Of course, we want more of this, maybe some “snoap” (although that might make things slippery enough that visitors need a 1-Up to get help). There is also some very cute Nintendo-themed decor, with products inspired by it. We love the Snowman Mario Ugly Christmas Sweater, which let’s face it, isn’t actually ugly.
